Expert System today announces the latest release of its Cogito semantic technology, fortified with features to better support management of Big Data. Given the quantity and diversity of information available, organizations need tools that provide a comprehensive view, not just single data points. Thanks to the ability to understand words in context, Cogito tackles the growing amount of unstructured information that often goes unanalyzed, but, when properly managed, can be the tipping point for competitive advantage.

The newest release of Cogito supports complex decision making by accessing all of the data available inside and outside the organization. It features:

  • Full integration with Big Data infrastructures, including Hadoop and analytical database systems (ADBMS). Cogito builds on the strength of Hadoop, addressing its’ lack of text analytics and natural language processing capabilities.
  • Accurate, real-time disambiguation of entities in text and automatic identification and analysis of associated attributes. Cogito can identify details about entities present in text, and store them in a proprietary, W3C-compliant format for more precise recall in search, categorization or database upload.
  • Automatic Sentiment Analysis at the document level for phrases and entities.
  • 20% faster analysis of data (20GB of text with 8 cores, 5M pages/day).
  • Semantic tagging added to the integration with Microsoft SharePoint and FAST, including a standard set of taxonomies for different domains.

“Semantic technology is made for the growing amounts of diverse types of information that fall outside the realm of ERP, CRM and other structured formats,” said Luca Scagliarini, VP, Strategy & Business Development, Expert System. “The advantage of a semantic approach is its ability to provide access to unstructured information that, when integrated into your existing data, adds great depth and insight.”

Expert System will be featuring Cogito at the Semantic Technology & Business Conference, booth #113 (San Francisco June 3-7, 2012). Bryan Bell, VP, Enterprise Solutions, will participate in the panel “Semantic Analysis of Big Data” (Wednesday, June 6 at 9.45 a.m.).
