Launched yesterday, the archive covers the newspaper’s full 140 years of publication, thanks to the Cogito semantic technology: 2.5 million pages, 8 million articles and 22 thousand journalists, since 1876

Expert System (EXSY.MI), a leader in multilingual cognitive computing technology,, has developed a search engine and automatic categorization system for the website of leading Italian daily newspaper, Corriere della Sera, applying semantic intelligence to all articles to guarantee faster, more accurate retrieval of news items. Launched yesterday, the new digital archive represents an important innovation in the information landscape for Italian publishing, and is the most recent project in a long history of collaboration with Expert System.

Through its unique semantic analysis, Expert System’s Cogito automatically classifies articles based on their content and ensures their retrieval through a sophisticated search engine. As a result, Corriere della Sera readers can navigate an unprecedented wealth of information: 2.5 million pages, 8 million articles, 22 thousand journalists from 1876 to today; 140 years of history are just a click away.

The Cogito semantic technology automatically analyzes text, identifying the correct meaning of what is being discussed in content through full comprehension of the meaning of words and phrases, and through uniform, precise classification that enables users to easily retrieve information via search.

“We are proud to be part of this important and historical initiative,” said Marco Varone, President and CTO, Expert System. “In this innovative project, semantic technology plays a key role by allowing users easy, targeted access to content of interest, even for large volumes of articles such as the Corriere’s historical  archive.”
